Justin Johnson
Hi everyone, I’m Justin, or Jay for short. I am currently a photographer based in Alexandria, VA. Photography was something that I initially only saw as an occasional hobby to partake in and nothing more than that. After seeing the affects that the images can have on others, I decided to commit further to growing my reach as a photographer.
As a teenager, I began writing poetry as a way of expressing myself and project emotions. Whether it be love, pain, adoration, or suffering, I have always believed that openly expressing one’s emotions is key to not only one’s mental health and wellbeing, but also it gives you space to tell a story how you see fit. This thought process transfers over to how I view photography as well. Every picture tells a different story whether it be one of excitement, agony, joy, or pain. Being able to help others tell their story is something I not only enjoy, I also take great pride in assisting others in finding happiness in their life and passions being shown in a beautiful light.
Outside of photography, some other hobbies that I am passionate about is muay thai, golf, cooking, and exploring different parts of the DMV. These hobbies are not only therapeutic for me, they also allow me to see the different kind of emotions that others may feel while doing these various activities. This has allowed me to look at these hobbies outside of just the lens of me participating in the activities and see them from how others may convey their emotions while doing these activities which has made me love to capture these images of others even more.
